Village Music Circles™ Basic Facilitator Training
June 7th-9th, 2024
Village Music Circles™ Basic Facilitator Training will empower you to build a rhythm community while exploring the foundational elements of drum circle facilitation.
Learn facilitation techniques and develop skills while gaining the confidence and knowledge to successfully lead a rhythm event. Packed with information and hands-on experience, both beginning and experienced facilitators will have plenty of opportunities for practicing new skills in a safe, supportive environment.
What does the program entail?
In 20+ hours of training, participants will have opportunities to practice facilitation techniques and skills needed to lead a drum circle event for a variety of populations.
This Playshop will include a mixture of teaching styles; incorporating instruction with discussions, small group and large group activities, and hands on learning – all while utilizing movement, voice, musical instruments, and rhythm games. Instructor will provide feedback in the group and privately as this is an important part of the learning process. Along with the hands on learning you’ll experience, there will be many opportunities for networking with other facilitators of many cultures, backgrounds, professions, and experience levels.

Who developed this training?
Village Music Circles utilizes the Drum Circle Facilitation techniques developed by it’s founder, Arthur Hull. Arthur has dedicated his life to making the joy of rhythm accessible to people everywhere.
Through his trainings, books, dvds, and music, Arthur strives to bring people a direct experience of the joy of rhythm; empowering others to carry the positive impact of community building through rhythm forward into their own lives and community.
Arthur has sparked the world-wide movement of drum circle facilitation, creating a new and internationally recognized profession of the Drum Circle Facilitator. Arthur’s goal is to help this growing community develop, and build a strong platform from which values-based professionalism can emerge.

Who will be leading this training?
Village Music Circles Certified Global Trainer Lucas Coffey is a dynamic and engaging facilitator with a passion for drumming and a mission to build connections through rhythm.
Lucas Coffey is the founder and lead facilitator of Rhythm Rhythm Rhythm, a sold-out artist-in-residence program that has shared improvised music with over 100, 000 students in Alberta and throughout North America. He is the co-founder of Rhythm for Youth, a training program designed to assist youth educators in launching or enhancing their own improv rhythm programs. He is a global drum circle trainer for Arthur Hull’s Village Music Circles. He has presented at the Drum Circle Facilitators Guild conference in 2017, 2021, 2022 & 2023 at the GETCA teachers conference in 2017, Seattle World Rhythm Festival in 2018, and the REMO Centre for Music in 2018. He is the author of the upcoming e-book “4 Principles of Ensemble Improv.”
