Dance Play Along

How to run it

  1. Keep it short. 10–15 minutes of video per class is plenty.
  2. Learn the signals first. Before you start any song, watch the Signals video for your grade — it’s just below.
  3. Pick a song for the grade you’re teaching.
    Waka WakaGrades 1–2
I Like To Move ItGrades 2–3
    MakebaGrades 3–4
    Destination CalabriaGrades 4–5
    Everybody EverybodyGrades 5–6

Class new to drumming? Drop down a song. A Grade 2 class without much drumming experience is better off starting on Waka Waka; a Grade 3 class without much experience, on I Like To Move It.

  4. Then run the song like this:
    • Play and repeat each video until a critical mass of students have got it, then move on to the next speed. Once the rhythm is solid, repeat that same process on the next rhythm.
    • Start at Learning Speed. Slowed down, with the call-out on screen — students copy until it’s steady.
    • Move to Practice Speed once the room is together. This is the tempo the whole song runs at.
    • Finish with the Whole Song video at the bottom of each section — that’s the performance run.

For teachers: once you’ve finished a song with your class, please fill in the short feedback form at the bottom of that song’s section.
