WORKSHOP 1: 4 ESSENTIAL RHYTHMS FOR YOUTH

What: This Workshop will explore four rhythms from around the world. Each Rhythm will be delivered in a three level progression that will allow you to teach the same rhythms to Kindergarten through Grade 9.

Length: 1-3.5 hrs

Take away:

  1. Each rhythm will be presented with: rhythm notation, Kodaly rhythm language (Ta, Ti, Tika), Language of the Djembe (Gun, Go, Pa), mnemonics, and audio recording.
  2. 5 technique pitfalls to avoid
  3. Rudiments to improve technique.
  4. Teaching to different abilities and learning styles.

 

WORKSHOP 2: DRUM CIRCLE FACILITATION FOR YOUTH

What: This workshop will explore the fundamental drum circle facilitation concepts developed by Arthur Hull and show you how to adapt them to a classroom setting.

Length: 1-3.5hrs

Take away: Each facilitation technique will be paired with a three level progression to adapt to Kindergarten through grade 9.

WORKSHOP 3: FOUR PRINCIPLES OF GROUP IMPROV 

What: Peak into the window of group improv for youth. When the right principles are applied, group improv can become an incredible arena for self-motivated growth and musical/social development.

Length: 1-3.5hrs

Take Away: Understanding four principles of group improv, activities to apply the principles and how to use existing activities to enhance group improv.

WORKSHOP  4: GAMES FOR YOUTH

What: In this workshop we will break down different styles of games. In particular we will be exploring “Group Mastery” games, a structure designed to encourage high levels of teamwork, develop rhythmic skill-sets quickly and create a platform for playing group improv together.

Length: 1-3.5hrs

Take away: You will come away with 3-10 (depending on workshop length) original games and how to adapt them to different age groups.

What do you need? A drum or desk, if you don’t have one bring a box (a smaller box that can fit between your legs will be most comfortable). Also bring a wood, bell or shaker (or something that is similar).
